    Lab Profile 
     
    종양유전자(ocogene)이나 종양억제유전자(tumor-suppresser gene)의 발견에서 확인되듯이 세포 내 많은 유전자 발현 조절 및 신호전달 체계는 바이러스와 숙주세포와의 상호작용을 연구하는 과정에서 밝혀졌다. 또한, 바이러스는 감염 후 숙주면역세포의 감시활동을 회피하기 위한 기전을 형성하는데, 이에 대한 연구는 종종 인체 면역시스템에 대한 새로운 통찰을 제시하기도 한다.
     
    본 연구실의 주요 연구 대상인 허피스바이러스는 고령화, 장기이식 또는 HIV 감염 등으로 인한 숙주의 면역 저하 시 재활성화 되는 대표적인 기회감염 병원균(opportunistic pathogen)으로서, 한번 생체에 감염되면 잠복감염을 형성하여 평생 동안 그 감염이 지속되면서 숙주세포와 상호작용을 하기 때문에 바이러스-숙주 상호작용 연구에 최적의 모델시스템을 제공한다.
     
    본 연구실에서는 감마허피스 바이러스의 동물 모델로 가장 널리 이용되는 murine gammaherpesvirus-68 (MHV-68)를 모델로 이용하여, 바이러스와 숙주간의 상호작용을 연구하고 있다. Bacterial artificial chromosome(BAC) 기법을 활용하여 바이러스 유전체를 조작하고, 바이러스와 숙주의 상호작용을 in vitro와 in vivo 수준에서 연구함으로써 바이러스가 일으키는 감염성 질환의 예방 및 치료를 위한 중요한 후보 유전자를 발굴하고자 한다. 또한, 바이러스 생활주기의 조절인자에 대한 연구와 이를 통한 종양 용해성 치료물질을 탐색 및 항바이러스제 개발 연구도 진행 중이다.
