Current Research

Research 1

Development of Artificial Intelligence Based Psychological Services for Solving Social Isolation Problems

Our project focuses on a specialized mobile application designed to address psychological difficulties associated with social isolation. This application will help users assess their social and psychological state and predict social isolation, providing evidence-based intervention. Our goal is to predict social isolation and provide evidence-based intervention to reduce the negative impacts of social isolation and ultimately improve overall mental health. This research is supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

Research 2

Development of ICT based Senior Mindcare Service (2021~2023)

This research aimed to develop an application that could continuously care for the mental health of elderly using ICT technology. The application, named “Dasi-Bom" (Spring Again) provides psychological assessment, cognitive function assessment, cognitive training, and autobiographical memory training. “Dasi-Bom" was honored with the IF Design Award in 2024. This research was supported by a grant of the Korea Health Technology R&D Project through the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), funded by the Ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea.

Development of a Korean Child Mental Health (Depression & Anxiety) Assessment Tool

This study aims to develop a depression and anxiety assessment tool tailored to the cultural and social contexts of Korean children and adolescents. The goal is to enhance early diagnosis and intervention for mental health issues, reduce costs, and improve accessibility in both research and clinical practice, thereby improving mental health care quality and efficiency at a national level.

Development and Application of Assessment Tools for Sustainable Development Education (ESD) Considering Climate Anxiety

This study aims to investigate the public's climate anxiety and psychosocial aspects in Korea and to devise assessment tools and manuals for Sustainable Development Education (ESD) considering climate anxiety. For this purpose, we conduct a survey, review previous studies, devise evaluation tools, and analyze the subsequent results. We are collaborating with the Korea National Arboretum on this research.

Development of a Personalized Treatment Recommendation Algorithm based on Personality Traits and Depression Severity

The purpose of this research is to develop an algorithm that recommends tailored treatment based on personality traits and severity of depression, anxiety, and suicidal risk. We are collaborating with LG Electronics for this research.

Research 6

Development of the Personalized Just-in-Time Craving Management System for Substance Use Disorders

Based on the assessment of vital signs and daily life in patients with substance addiction (alcohol, nicotine, drugs), this study aims to identify the neurobiological markers and digital phenotypes of craving and craving suppression in the substance addiction group. Utilizing these findings, the goal is to develop digital intervention technologies that can detect and predict the occurrence of cravings in daily life and suppress cravings in real-time, using virtual reality for treatment and mobile-based interventions.

Academic Research to Establish a Proactive Response Plan for PTSD

This study aimed to examine the prevalence of PTSD and its severity, related mental health problems in Seoul, South Korea. We collected responses from a representative sample of 1000 Seoul residents(487 male, 522 female) about their experiences with mental health and disaster/traumatic events. This research was supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Research on the Oral Autobiographical Memory Data based on Modern Experiences of the Older Adults

The purpose of this research was to build a big dataset of autobiographical memories based on the modern experiences of the older adults and to develop an artificial intelligence(AI) learning model. This project was supported by the National Information Society Agency(NIA).

Longitudinal Study on the Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health

This study aimed to investigate the impact of personality traits and psychological states on people’s attitudes or coping strategies toward COVID-19 using survival analysis, hierarchical linear modeling, and autoregressive cross-lagged analysis.

Research 4

Research on the Therapeutic Benefits of Nature-Based Therapies (NBT) and the Use of Digital Technology to Disseminate Therapeutic Gardening

We are conducting research on how to effectively implement nature-based treatments with psychological components for mental health benefits and strategies for implementation and dissemination. We are collaborating with the National Arboretum & Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute for this research.
