    세포는 끊임없이 외부 환경 변화 혹은 스트레스에 적절히 대응하면서 세포의 항상성을 유지해야한다 . 다양한 스트레스 자극 ( 예 : oxidative stress, neurotoxin, 그외 독성물질 ) 에 의해 세포의 여러 기능이 손상되고 세포의 항상성이 파괴되면 세포사멸이 촉진된다 . 잘못 발생된 세포사멸은 퇴행성뇌신경질환 , 암 , 염증질환 등의 여러 질환의 발병 원인이 된다 .


    생명의 본질을 분자적 수준에서 이해하기 위해서는 세포사멸 현상이 어떤 메카니즘을 통해 조절되는 지를 분석하고 이에 관련된 제어인자와 신호전달체계를 규명하는 것이 필수적이다 . 세포 사멸 조절기전 연구는 생명의 본질과 세포 항상성을 이해하고자 하는 학문적 가치 뿐 만 아니라 여러 관련 질환들의 새로운 예방 / 치료 방법 개발에 응용할 수 있는 중요한 정보를 제공할 수 있다 . 이와 같이 세포사멸 연구는 무한한 응용 가능성을 제시하는 연구 분야이다 .


    우리 실험실은 세포사멸 및 세포 항상성 제어기전 관련 세포신호전달 연구를 하고 있다 . 특히 , programmed cell death(apoptosis, necroptosis), autophagy, inflammation 에 대한 분자적 기전 연구와 퇴행성뇌신경독성 (neurodegeneration) 관련 질환들의 발병기전 연구를 하고 있다 . 연구의 주된 목표는 다음과 같다.


    • ● cell death, autophagy 관련 새로운 조절 유전자 / 단백질 발굴 및 제어기전 규명
    • ● 뇌신경질환 ( 퇴행성뇌질환 , 뇌경색 / 뇌졸중 ) 발병 기전에서의 cell death 및 autophagy 제어인자의 역할 규명
    • ● 질환 ( 뇌신경질환 , 암 ) 발병 기전에서의 inflammation-signaling 의 역할 규명
    Ongoing Project
    • ● neurodegeneration (brain ischemia, ALS, parkinson’s disease) 발병 기전에서의 stress-induced cell death/autophagy 제어인자의 역할 연구
