저의 주 연구분야는 직업 및 환경역학 (occupational and environmental epidemiology)이며 그 중에서도 특히 농약과 방사선 노출에 의한 건강영향 연구를 진행하고 있습니다.

Won Jin Lee received a MD in 1989 and a PhD in Preventive Medicine from the Korea University, Korea, in 1998. He has served as a visiting fellow at the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France (2000.7 – 2001.8) and at the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch at US National Cancer Institute in Rockville, USA (2001.9 – 2004.11). Since September 2004, he has been working as a professor at the department of Preventive Medicine at Korea University College of Medicine and at School of Public Health, Korea University, Seoul, Korea.

His research focuses on the health effects of exposure to environmental and occupational factors including ionizing radiation. He has been served as principle investigator of a cohort study among diagnostic radiation medical workers in Korea and published several papers including introduction and baseline findings of the cohort, occupational radiation exposure and related factors, reliability of questionnaire on work practice, and badge dose reconstruction. He is currently calculating the ERR/EAR in more than 90,000 medical workers exposed to low-doses of fractionated radiation. Recently he is also conducting a health survey for fluoroscope-guided intervention medical workers in Korea. Dr. Lee’s other ongoing project supported Korean government is to calculate cancer risk among Korean population from occupational and medical radiation exposure. He had been conducted and published the estimate of cancer risk from radiation contamination on food in Korea after Fukushima disaster.

Besides radiation research, Dr. Lee has been involved in pesticide epidemiology projects. He has been investigated the magnitude and burden of acute pesticide poisoning in Korea from analyzing national health data as well as conducting a field survey and these results were published at several international scientific journals. Recently he demonstrated a strong intervention effect of paraquat ban to prevent suicide in Korea that was published at International Journal of Epidemiology in 2016. He also studied the association between occupational pesticide exposure and health effects including depression, suicidal ideation, nerve conducting velocity, respiratory effects, and cancer death among farmers, which were also published at international scientific journals.

Dr. Lee is an Associate Editor of the journal “Occupational and Environmental Medicine” and a member of Executive Committee of the Korean Association for Radiation Protection. He has almost 120 peer-reviewed publications on environmental and occupational epidemiology studies. Further, he reviews manuscripts for several journals as well as grant proposals. He has a long career in education and training about public health.
