    안지훈은 1997년 서울대학교에서 박사학위를 하고 1998년부터 2001년까지 미국 The Salk Institute for Biological Studies (La Jolla, CA)의 Detlef Weigel Lab에 서 애기장대의 개화시기 조절에 관한 연구를 했다. 주요 연구 관심은 애기장대를 모델로 해서 고등식물체에서 대기온도의 변화를 인지하는 개화 조절과 miRNA에 의해 일어나는 개화시기 조절에 관한 연구이다. 2008년부터 2017년까지 대기온도 센서 연구단 (창의적 연구 진흥 사업/미래창조과학부)을 이끌었다. 2017년 부터 2022년까지 삼성미래육성재단의 과제를 수행하고 있다

  • Research

     

    The Ahn lab has made fundamental contributions to the understanding of the control of flowering time by ambient temperature changes. Best known of our discoveries is that a small group of genes that act within a distinct pathway, the ambient temperature pathway, mediate ambient temperature response. This finding was one of the first clues to the molecular genetic mechanism of plants’ behavior to the ambient temperature changes.

     

    There is increasing concern about the potential impact of global temperature changes, which significantly affect ambient temperature, on plant development. Although a great deal of progress has been made in our understanding of the regulation of plant development by low temperature, less is currently known about the molecular mechanisms underlying the responses of plants to changes in ambient temperature. Our findings have provided a new explanation for the genetic mechanisms by which plants respond to ambient temperature changes.

     

    We proposed the ambient temperature pathway genes control flowering time (Nature Genetics). We have shown that SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE (SVP) acts within the thermosensory pathway and plays a role in ambient temperature response via direct binding to the cis-acting element of FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT), an important floral integrator gene (Genes and Development). In addition, we have shown that small RNAs play an important regulatory role in ambient temperature signaling and that SVP provides a link between the thermosensory pathway and ambient temperature-responsive miRNAs (Nucleic Acids Research). We have recently showed that SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE (SVP) and FLOWERING LOCUS M-beta (FLM-beta), two MADS-box proteins, form a complex that mediate temperature response in plants (Science). We also showed that control of the abundance of SVP-FLM-beta repressor complex at the transcriptional level (FLM) and at the post-translational level (SVP) is important for plants’ response under continuingly changing ambient temperature conditions.

    POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS

       
    Dr. Kim received her doctorate from Sogang University for her research on genes induced by abiotic stress in rice. She worked at the Fraunhofer Institute, Germany on the project "Downstream processing for a monoclonal anti-HIV 2G12 antibody from transgenic maize kernels". At PBIOA, she is currently working on FT-FTIP mapping and cell biology. She likes to read, climb and long walks.
    Dr. Chung Hee Lee received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Michigan in May 2014 and received a Ph.D. in a study on "how the stem cell specification and differentiation is maintained in Arabidopsis." He became a postdoctoral fellow at PBIO-A in May 2015. He is currently investigating genes involved in the regulation of flowering time in different ecological types of Arabidopsis. He likes reading, walking, swimming and cycling.
    Dr. Kasia Gawarecka received her Ph.D. degree in 2015 at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. My Ph.D. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of glycinoprenols in Arabidopsis thaliana on the development of an animal model of glycinoprenols . She joined PBIOA in August 2017. She loves plants and plays free time games, cooks and draws. 
    Dr. Hemasundar Alavilli received his Ph.D. in 2017 from Sogang University in Seoul. His Ph.D.  study objectives were to understand the functional benefits of polar moss genetic resources in crop improvement and enhancement of abiotic stress tolerance. He joined PBIOA in October 2017. He loves listening to songs, walking and .

     

    GRADUATE STUDENTS

    Hendry Susila joined us from Indonesia at March 2013 as integrated Master-Ph.D student. He was born in 1989 in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. He obtained his bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Biology, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. Currently, he is working on the transcriptional and post-translational regulation of florigen, FLOWERING LOCUS T. He likes reading, hiking, and doing experiments.
    Jin Soo-hyun joined PBIO-A in December 2012 and entered the master's program in March 2013. From March 2014, I entered the Master's and Doctor's program. 
    Zeeshan Nasim was born in 1990 in the historic "Peshawar" city of Pakistan and did his masters from IBGE, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar Pakistan. He joined PBIOA as a Researcher in 2015 and later enrolled as a Ph.D. student in 2016. Currently, he is studying the involvement of the NMD pathway in flowering regulation and PAF1c mediated transcriptional regulation in Arabidopsis. He wants to utilize computational tools with the biological community to serve the community. He loves Cricket, the gentleman's game.

    Hong is the administrative center of the plant. He is responsible for research expenses and various administrative affairs. Since the plant signal network research center opened in 2003, I have been working together. Before that, I worked for the Korea Research Foundation. 
    Kim Young-ja came to PBIO-A in 2005. ja came to PBIO-A in 2005. He was initially involved in TAIL-PCR-related experiments, and now he is in charge of managing overall plant-related experiments in the lab as a lab technician. She is always like a mother with her warm smile and always with her family.
       
       
      FORMER MEMBERS

    Professor Lee Jung-hwan obtained his doctoral degree from Korea University in February 2001 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher until February 2003 to investigate the OsFCA gene that acts on the flowering-time control pathway in rice. Since March 2003, we have come to PBIO-A and are looking for temperature-regulated flowering pathways and Arabidopsis mutants associated with early flowering. 2007-2010 MOEHRD-KRF Research Professor  (Korea Research Foundation)]

     

    Currently, he is a professor at Chonbuk National University.

    Dr. Wanhee Kim received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Paris, France, at the University of Paris, France, on the topic of role of histone acetylation in the function of genome expression. We are currently studying microRNA as a temperature sensor for plants. ( 2010-2011 Postdoctral fellowship  (National Research Foundation)

     

    Currently, Professor Cecile Segonzac of the Department of Plant Science and Technology, Seoul National University 

    In August 2014, Dr. Shin received a Ph.D. in the study of MAP kinase in rice and Arabidopsis responding to JA and stress at Korea University in August 2014. He joined PBIO-A as a postdoctoral researcher in September 2014.

     

    Currently, Professor Nam Kyunghee is a researcher at Sookmyung Women's University.

    Kang Tae-wook joined the PBIO as an undergraduate student in March 2013 and obtained his master's degree in February 2017. 

    Phanu Tew Serivichyaswat hails from Chiang Rai, Thailand. Having earned B.Sc. (Biotechnology) from Mae Fah Luang University (Thailand) in 2012, he worked at Orchid Biotechnology Research Laboratory to study the molecular basis of orchid-mycorrhiza symbiosis, then joined us in the following year. Ending world hunger is his motivation to study flowering time. He is currently studying the role of  microRNA  in regulation of ambient temperature-responsive flowering time.
